About Volvo
Volvo’s agricultural tractor history developed alongside Sweden’s Bolinder-Munktell. The businesses combined their tractor identities before Volvo’s remaining tractor interests passed to Valmet in 1985.

History and legacy
After the 1950 acquisition, separate tractor identities gradually gave way to combined branding. The Volvo BM name was adopted in the 1970s, followed by cooperation with Valmet. The sale of the tractor operation in 1985 concerns agricultural tractors, not the closure of Volvo’s wider vehicle and industrial businesses.
