About Turner Manufacturing
England’s Turner Manufacturing built the Yeoman tractor to use its V4 diesel engine after World War II. Tractor manufacturing was one short chapter in a broader industrial business.
- Beginning
- Postwar diesel and Yeoman tractor program
- Founder / origin
- Turner Manufacturing, England
- Known for
- Yeoman tractors, diesel engines and industrial components
- Sale / later history
- Sold to Dana in 1978; transmission division purchased by Caterpillar in 1996
History and legacy
Turner’s tractor production lasted less than a decade, while its engine and component activities continued beyond the tractor line. The later Dana and Caterpillar transactions concern the industrial business and transmission operations. They should not be mistaken for years in which the Yeoman tractor was still being manufactured.
