About Thieman Harvester
The Thieman brothers’ Iowa company offered inexpensive tractor kits before World War II. Buyers supplied major automotive components, making the finished machines less standardized than factory-complete tractors.
- Beginning
- Tractor kits offered from 1936
- Founder / origin
- Thieman brothers, Albert City, Iowa
- Known for
- Low-cost kit tractors using owner-supplied engines and driveline parts
- Sale / later history
- Production stopped in 1942 amid wartime steel shortages
History and legacy
A Thieman kit did not include every major mechanical component. The Ford Model A engine and driveline were recommended, but owners could use alternatives. This explains why surviving examples can differ substantially. The archive associates the end of production in 1942 with wartime material shortages.
