About Steiger
The Steiger family built its first high-powered tractor during the winter of 1957–1958. The business grew into a major four-wheel-drive maker before Tenneco acquired it in 1986.

History and legacy
Manufacturer and industry histories describe the first farm-built tractor and the move into larger-scale production. Financial trouble in the 1980s preceded the purchase, while the Steiger name continued within Case IH rather than ending with the independent company.
