About Ransomes
Robert Ransome founded an ironworks in 1789. Its machinery lineage later included small MG-series crawlers before the company concentrated on lawn equipment and joined Jacobsen.
- Beginning
- 1789 ironworks; MG2 crawler introduced in 1936
- Founder / origin
- Robert Ransome
- Known for
- Agricultural machinery, small crawlers, and turf equipment
- Sale / later history
- Crawler production ended by the mid-1960s; Jacobsen acquired Ransomes in 1998
History and legacy
The crawler era was only one stage in a much longer business history. The original ironworks, later tractors, and eventual grounds-care identity should not be assigned one common founding or closure date.
