About Denning
J. M. Denning founded the Estherville Fence Factory in Iowa in 1893. It evolved into a tractor business before General Ordnance purchased it in 1918 and adopted the National Tractor name.

History and legacy
The business moved to Cedar Rapids in 1899 and sold its fencing patents and machinery in 1912. The later Denning-designed tractor continued under new names; a change of badge should not be mistaken for an unrelated design appearing from nowhere.
