David Brown’s Huddersfield engineering business began in 1860. It progressed from gears to tractors, then became part of Tenneco’s Case operation in 1972; the Meltham factory closed in 1988.

History and legacy
A short 1936 Ferguson partnership preceded the VAK1. Wartime disruption limited early output before postwar expansion. The tractor badge, acquisition, and factory closure occurred in different years; the later Case identity was not the original company’s start.
