About Agrico
Agrico’s South African tractor business dates to Agrico Machinery’s establishment in 1950 as a Lanz importer. It later developed the large 4+ tractor series, while its broader history also includes the Andrag family’s agricultural-equipment business.
- Beginning
- 1950 for Agrico Machinery; the Andrag family business has earlier roots
- Founder / origin
- Agrico Machinery and the Andrag family business
- Known for
- Large four-wheel-drive tractors, agricultural equipment, and irrigation systems
- Sale / later history
- Agrico and Andrag merged in 2000; the group later refocused its activities
From importing to local tractor production
Agrico initially imported Lanz tractors. Sales of its locally developed 4+ series began in 1986. The Agrico Machinery date should be distinguished from the earlier Andrag family enterprise, which company-profile accounts trace to Paul Andrag.
Changes in the business
A published company profile records the merger of the Andrag and Agrico organizations in 2000 and a decision in 2016 to sell the mechanization division to focus on its own products and water-related activities. These are business changes, not a documented closure of the entire group.

Index power values can include estimates derived from belt or PTO power. They are identified on each model card and are not interchangeable with a measured engine rating. Model years and missing values follow the source index.
